Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) Program

Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) is Sacramento County’s main outpatient mental health program for children and youth ages 0–21 and their families. Services are flexible and family-centered.  

The goal is to help young people feel safe, supported, and successful at home, at school, and in the community.

Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) works with families in a way that lowers barriers and makes it easier to get help.

What Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) Does 

Services are based on each family’s goals. Families are part of every decision. 

The program can help by: 

  • Completing a mental health assessment 
  • Creating a care plan with the family 
  • Providing individual and family therapy 
  • Teaching coping and life skills 
  • Supporting emotional and behavioral needs 
  • Working with schools, child welfare, probation, and healthcare providers 
  • Connecting families to community and housing resources 

What Makes Flexible Integrated Treatment Different 

Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) is built on a “meet people where they are” approach. This means: 

Services can happen at home, at school, in the community, or in an office 

Providers can adjust services to match what a child and family need 

Families may stay with the same provider if their needs change 

       The program focuses on the whole child, not just symptoms       

There are 10 contracted providers across Sacramento County. These providers work together as part of the same County network. Each provider may describe services in their own way, but they all follow the same program standards. 

Housing and Community Supports 

Mental health and housing stability are connected. Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) includes housing and community support that helps reduce stress that can affect a child’s well-being. 

Depending on need and eligibility, support may include: 

  • Rental assistance 
  • Short-term hotel or motel stays 
  • Security deposits 
  • Help with utilities 
  • Help searching for housing 
  • Landlord mediation 
  • Credit repair fees 
  • Help with housing documents 
  • Basic household items 

These supports are meant to help families stay stable and prevent housing problems from getting worse. 


What Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) Is Not
 

Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) is not: 

  • A locked facility 
  • A hospital program 
  • A program that places youth on involuntary psychiatric holds 
  • A program that leads to incarceration 
  • A crisis-only service 

It is an outpatient program that provides ongoing support in the community. If there is immediate danger, call 911 or 988. 


Who Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) Serves 
 

Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) serves: 

  • Children and youth ages 0–21 
  • Families who need behavioral health support 
  • Youth involved with schools, child welfare, probation, or healthcare providers 

To qualify, a child or youth must:

  • Be age 0–21 
  • Have Medi-Cal 
  • Complete an assessment 

An assessment helps decide what services are the best for the youth and family. 


Who Provides Services 

 

Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) services are provided by contracted community providers in Sacramento County. 

These providers may include: 

  • Mental health therapists 
  • Case managers 
  • Peer and family support specialists 
  • Housing and resource staff 
  • Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioners 

The team works together to support the child and family. 

How Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) Works

There are two main ways to enter the program: 

  1. Contact ​Behavioral Health Services-Screening and Coordination

    Contact ​Behavioral Health Services-Screening and Coordination to complete an assessment.

  2. Visit A Contracted Provider Location and Request Services

    After an assessment, families are connected to a provider that best meets their needs. The provider works with the family to create a plan and begin services. 

Program Results and Data 

Flexible Integrated Treatment serves many families each year across Sacramento County. 

The program includes: 

  • 10 contracted providers 
  • 16 service sites 
  • About 10,000 children and families served each year 

The program continues to grow and improve access to care.
