Paramedic Accreditation

To Qualify


Apply online, at  https://actonline.saccounty.net and register as a new user. Once you register your account, you will be able to log in and apply for your accreditation.  Online application instructions found here.

If you need assistance, bring all documents in-person to:

SCEMSA counter hours are; Tuesday thru Thursday 0800-1200.​
 

 Initial Accreditation: If the applicant is applying for accreditation for the first time, the following must be submitted online:

  1. Apply online at https://actonline.saccounty.net and register as a new user. Once you register your account, you will be able to log in and apply for your accreditation. Online application instructions found here.
  2. Provide evidence of a current California Paramedic License.
  3. Government-issued photo identification (i.e. Driver's license, Passport or Military ID).
  4. Attend the Sacramento County Paramedic Orientation class and pass the post-test with an 80% or higher.
  5. Documentation of training in the following skills:
    • Pediatric endotracheal intubation
  6. Current dated letter from approved ALS Provider of current affiliation as a Paramedic.
  7. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider, American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR card or equivalent.

  8. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card or equivalent.

  9. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) card or equivalent.
  10. Upload a passport style photo of yourself for the SCEMSA Accreditation Card or come in to the office where staff can take the photo for free and upload it to your application.  Counter hours are Tuesday - Thursday 0800-1200.
  11. Pay the accreditation fee.
  12. Once all the above is submitted you will receive an email confirming SCEMSA has received your application, ​documents and the date of the Paramedic County Orientation.

NOTE: To attend SCEMSA Paramedic Orientation Course, your application must be completed, all required documents uploaded and fees paid, at https://actonline.saccounty.net  by 12:00 pm  (NOON) Thursday, the day before orientation, in order to attend the course.  Class size is limited to 25 people.  Please register early and call the office if you have any issues with the online application process.

Continuous Accreditation: To maintain continuous accreditation the applicant must not experience a lapse in Paramedic Licensure or County Accreditation and submit online the following:
 
  1. Apply online at https://actonline.saccounty.net and register as a new user. Once you register your account, you will be able to log in and apply for your accreditation. Online application instructions found here.
  2. Provide evidence of a current California Paramedic License. *Please note, you must renew your state license prior to renewing your County accreditation as the expiration dates will always coincide.
  3. Government issued Photo Identification (i.e. Driver's License, Passport, or Military ID).
  4. Current dated letter from approved ALS Provider of current affiliation as a Paramedic.
  5. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider, American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR card or equivalent.

  6. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card or equivalent.

  7. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) card or equivalent.
  8. Verification of Skills Competency is completed every two years (see SCEMSA skill form).
  9. Upload a passport style photo of yourself for the SCEMSA Accreditation Card or come in to the office where staff can take the photo for free and upload it to your application.  Counter hours are Tuesday - Thursday 0800-1200.
Reaccredit after a lapse in California Paramedic licensure or County accreditation:
  1.  If the lapse in Sacramento County Accreditation is greater than thirty (30) days, regardless of employment status, or actively practicing as a paramedic in Sacramento County, the applicant must re-apply for initial accreditation including attending a county orientation and all associated fees.   
  2. Apply online at https://actonline.saccounty.net ​​
  3. Indicate an affiliation with a Sacramento County ALS provider and provide a current dated letter on provider letter head, of affirmation of employment or affiliation.
  4. Upload evidence of a renewed and valid California State Paramedic license.
  5. Verification of Skills Competency is completed every two years (see SCEMSA skill form).

  6. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider, American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR card or equivalent.

  7. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card or equivalent.

  8. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) card or equivalent.

  9. Upload government issued photo identification (i.e. Driver’s license, Passport, or Military ID).

  10. Pay the accreditation fee.

 

Transfer of Accreditation:

  1.   Transfer of accreditation is permissible if the paramedic:
    a. Submits a letter of affiliation, from an approved Sacramento County ALS provider, within ninety (90) calendar days employment ceased with the previous approved Sacramento County ALS provider.
    b. Meets eligibility for continuous accreditation.
NOTE:
Effective May 1, 2018 when applying, all Initial, Continuous and Reaccrediting Paramedics will need to upload, in addition to the above requirements a:
  1. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider, American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR card or equivalent.
  2. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card or equivalent.
  3. Copy (front and back) of a valid American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) card or equivalent.
  4. Verification of Skills Competency is completed every two years (see SCEMSA Paramedic Infrequent or Critical Skills Verification form​​​).
Effective May 1, 2019, when applying, all Initial, Continuous and Reaccrediting Paramedics will need to upload, in addition​ to the above requirements a:
  1. Copy of (front and back) of a current ITLS/PHTLS card, and maintenance of that certification for accreditation or LEMSA approved alternative.​

For Initial County Accreditation - Pay cash (exact amount) in the office or pay by credit card online.

  • Non-refundable SCEMSA application fee of $93.09
  • Expedited Processing Fee (if requested) of $30.00

For Continuous Accreditation -Pay cash (exact amount) in the office or pay by credit card online. 

  • Renewal Fee (for lapsed accreditations only) of $93.09
  • Expedited Processing Fee (if requested) of $30.00
