Child Passenger Safety

September 20-26, 2020 Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Week

NHSTA and the Ad Council  launched a new series of public service ads (PSAs) that urge parents and caregivers to protect their child's future at every stage of life, by making sure they secure them in the correct car seat for their age, height, and weight.

Every 32 seconds in 2018, one child under the age of 13 in a passenger vehicle was involved in a crash.  Many times, injuries and deaths can be prevented by proper use of car seats, boosters, and seat belts.

The Childhood Illness and Injury and Prevention (ChIIP) Program seeks to ensure that children are properly restrained each time they ride in a vehicle.

Our Program Seeks To:

  • Educate parents on the importance of using child safety seats properly by conducting 1 hour car seat fitting appointments.
  • Demonstrate how to properly install child safety seats.
  • Provide 2 hour Car Seat Safety Trainings for Childcare providers, law enforcement personnel, fire fighters, nurses, health care workers, community outreach worker, social workers, and home visitors.

Parent Classes & Provider Trainings:

Not currently offered (as of September 2020), however, call (916) 875-5869 for referrals.

For more information about car seat referrals, call (916) 875-5869.
