28th Annual Calling Out of Names

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The 28th Annual Calling Out of Names event will take place Thursday, November 17, 9:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m., on the
North Steps of the State Capitol. Each year we pause our busy lives long enough to speak the names of thousands of California children
who are waiting in foster care for a family that will love them and let them stay.

When:         Thursday, November 17, 2016, 9:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.
Where:        California Capitol Building, North Steps

Great photo opportunity:

  •           Each participating Foster Family Agency will honor a family of the year.
  •           Grant High School Drumline performance.

"During this month of giving thanks, this vigil is a wonderful way for the community to come together to raise awareness of and hope for
those children who are awaiting permanent homes," said Sherri Z. Heller, Sacramento County Director of Health and Human Services.

During the seven-hour vigil, adoptive parents, child advocates, community leaders, and elected officials including, Sacramento County
Supervisor Patrick Kennedy, who is introducing a resolution to the County Board of Supervisors this week recognizing November as
National Adoption Month and Assemblyman Kevin McCarty, legislative sponsor for the event, will continually read the names and ages of
every child in California currently waiting for families. Some names have been read year after year.

Every child deserves the love and support of a permanent family. Thousands of foster children in California are in need of loving and
affirming homes, if you are interested in becoming a foster or adoptive parent call (916) 875-5543.
