Sacramento, CA –Ann Edwards, Director of Sacramento County’s Department of Health and Human Services, today announced Michelle Callejas who currently leads the Mental Health Services Act Programs as the new Deputy Director of Child Protective Services (CPS). Callejas has nearly twenty years of experience in human services including Child Protective Services. Callejas received a Master of Science degree in Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice.  She has been employed by the County of Sacramento since June, 1996, in increasingly responsible positions. In her most recent position, Callejas has managed the implementation of the Mental Health Services Act and implemented 36 new programs serving children, youth, adults and older adults.

Callejas assumes leadership in CPS in the midst of important and significant changes to improve outcomes for children and families.

Edwards states, “Callejas brings strong leadership to CPS and is committed to maintaining and advancing the focus on improved safety, increased permanency, and greater accountability in the organization.  I am confident that her unique skill set, enthusiasm and vision will enable CPS to continue to achieve the child and family centered re-organization goals currently underway.”
