Sacramento County Celebrates Public Health Week

Sacramento, Calif. – Sacramento County's Division of Public Health will join with public health systems across the country, April 3-9, to celebrate National Public Health Week 2017.

For over 20 years, this week has served as an opportunity to acknowledge public health contributions, educate and engage communities to promote healthy behaviors, and raise awareness about pressing public health issues. National Public Health Week is an initiative of the American Public Health Association. Their primary goal is to unify the country in efforts to achieve this year's theme – create the healthiest nation in one generation.

Sacramento County Public Health will participate in the growing movement by partnering with a range of organizations to provide free events that promote healthy behaviors, fair policies and strategies through education and health services. The theme for this Public Health week is 'Be Healthy Together Sacramento.'

"A strong public health system is essential for sustaining and improving community health," says Dr. Olivia Kasirye, Sacramento County's Public Health Officer. "Public Health Week is an opportunity to not only recognize public health achievements, but most importantly to educate the community on how to keep ourselves, our families, and our children healthy."

Public Health invites all community members and partners to participate in the efforts toward creating a healthier, happier Sacramento County by attending one of the scheduled Public Health Week events.
