​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Programs are state-funded programs housed within Sacramento County Public Health. The mission of the MCAH programs is to assure that all women of childbearing age, adolescents, children, and infants have access to quality health services, particularly those that reduce the incidence of low birth weight and premature delivery, maternal and infant mortality, and incidence of preventable diseases and conditions that lead to temporary or permanent disabilities in children.

Program Goals

• All children are born healthy to healthy mothers 
• No health status disparities among racial/ethnic, gender, economic and regional group
• A safe and healthy environment for women, children and their families
• Equal access for all women, children and their families to appropriate and needed care within an integrated and seamless system
  

Sacramento County Goals

• Decreased infant mortality rates
• Increased access to and utilization of early and continuous, quality prenatal care for pregnant women
• Improved birth outcomes, particularly increased birth weights
• Decreased teen birth rate among girls age 17 year old and younger
• Reduce perinatal illicit drug, tobacco, and/or alcohol use and exposure
• Increased awareness, availability, and utilization of immunization services for children up to 24 months old
• Decreased numbers of deaths of children caused by unintentional injuries
• Decreased morbidity, mortality, disability, and cost resulting from domestic violence/physical abuse directed at women
• Reduced fetal/infant/toddler exposure to second-hand smoke
• Increased awareness and promotion of breastfeeding
• Improved oral health for children
