The Sexual Health Promotion Unit (SHPU) works to provide comprehensive STD/STI services to Sacramento County through education, awareness, and access. We envision an equitable & inclusive community that promotes healthy sexual behaviors, sex-positivity, and bodily autonomy. And our guiding values include reducing the stigma of sexuality, empowering individuals to be in control of their sexual health and wellbeing, providing non-judgmental services and ensuring health equity.

What Is Sexual Health?
Sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence.
