Patients' Rights Advocate
Ensuring the rights of people who receive services is a high priority in Sacramento County. The Division of Behavioral Health Services has delegated this State-mandated requirement to the Consumer Self-Help Office of Patients' Rights.
Whenever a person is involuntarily detained in a hospital setting, California law provides certain very specific legal protections and the availability of a knowledgeable advocate to speak on behalf of the detained person. A Consumer Self-Help Patients' Rights advocate will present the expressed interests of the person in Certification Review hearings and various other legal procedures which may occur routinely or which are requested by the person. Whenever a person in the local system feels their rights are being infringed upon or even denied, that person can request review of the event and a thorough investigation will be done.
