Children start to lose their baby teeth around five years old when permanent teeth grow in. Ask your dentist about dental sealants and fluoride varnish to help protect your child's teeth from cavities. Sealants help prevent cavities by blocking bacteria from getting into the deep grooves in back teeth. Fluoride varnish is applied to strengthen teeth and make them more resistant to cavities.
Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KOHA)
California state law requires children to receive a dental checkup before or during their first year in school. This helps ensure children receive the oral health care they need to be healthy and ready for school. For more information and resources please visit the Resources for School Partners and KOHA page.
